Tyrel Cooper


Tyrel Cooper: has had a successful coaching career in the Las Vegas area guiding the Arbor View High School girls cross country program to the 2013 State Championship, 2009 State Runner-Up and a 2012 3rd place finish, as well as the AVHS women’s track program to State Runner-Up in 2015 and 3rd place in 2013. He is currently in his first year as the head men’s and women’s track coach at Coronado High School. Cooper holds USATF Level 2 certifications in Sprints/ Hurdles/Relays, Combined Events and Endurance. He also holds a USATF Level 3/ IAAF Level 5 certification in Endurance Events, along with a Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration. Coach Cooper is the Track & Cross Country Coordinator for the Clark County School District, and also works with post-collegiate sprinters as an assistant coach for Triple Crown Athletics.

Melissa Ferry: is Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country teams at Virginia Union University, where this year alone the Panther men produced 11 NCAA Provisional Qualifiers, second team All-America, 8 USTFCCCA All-Region designations, 5 individual CIAA titles, 27 All-Conference performances, and 7 school records. The women additionally set three school records. Previously Ferry headed Mount Vernon High School in Virginia, winning three AAU and two USATF Youth Indoor Championship titles. Ferry holds USATF Level 2 certifications in Sprints/Hurdles/Relays and Youth Specialization, and is completing a Ph.D. in Sport Leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University. As an athlete, Ferry captained the women’s team at George Mason University.

April Smith: is an Assistant Coach at Fresno State University, where in her first two seasons she has produced 7 MWC All-Conference athletes along with 5 conference champions, 7 National qualifiers and 2 All-Americans. Prior to Fresno St., Smith spent 15 years at Appalachian State and coached 59 conference champions in the throwing events along with 22 Regional qualifiers, 10 National qualifiers and one Olympic Trials qualifier. Smith is the lead coaching education instructor for Central California, was a member of the Pan American Games coaching staff in 2013. Smith holds USATF Level 2 certifications in Throws and Combined Events, along with a USATF Level 3/ IAAF Level V certification in Throws.
