Instructors

Dr. Matt Lydum: is the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Pacific University. Lydum started as head track coach at Pendleton High School in Eastern Oregon, then served in that role at San Francisco State University, and Defiance College in Ohio. He was USOC delegate to the International Olympic Academy and was project writer for the Human Kinetics text, Coaching Youth Track & Field (2000). He completed his PhD in Teaching and Teacher Education at the University of Arizona and currently directs the Youth Specialization in the USATF Level 2 program.

Scott Cappos: Scott is in his sixth year at University of Nebraska as the throws coach. Cappos qualified three athletes to the 2020 NCAA Indoor National Championships and coached the 2016 NCAA Discus Champion Nick Percy. Cappos has had more than 100 athletes qualify for the NCAA Championships (preliminary round and finals). Before Nebraska, Cappos spent 18 seasons at the University of Iowa as an assistant coach and director of field events. While at Iowa, his athletes tied or broke Big Ten records in the hammer throw, javelin and long jump. The 2011 Iowa men’s team won the Big Ten Championship with heavy contributions from athletes Cappos recruited and coached.

Nate Davis: Nate enters his 14th year as an Assistant Track & Field coach at the University of Wisconsin. He is a USATF Level 3 / IAAF Level V Academy Coach – Jumps, and has served as a USATF Level 2 instructor for Combined Events. Nate has coached over two dozen Big Ten Champions and All-Americans in the heptathlon, decathlon, high jump, pole vault, horizontal jumps and sprints/hurdles. He also coached Zach Ziemek to a 7th place finish at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Joel Pearson: Joel is the Head Coach at Pratt Community College. Previously, Joel was the Director at Cardinal Stritch University. During his time, the Wolves captured six national champions, 34 all-Americans, 42 National Qualifiers, and set an NAIA National DMR record. A USATF Level 3 / IAAF Level V Academy Coach – Endurance & Youth, Joel holds USATF Level 2 certifications in Endurance, Combined Events, Sprint/Hurdles, Jumps, and Youth. He holds a Masters in Sport Management and is currently a USATF Level 2 Instructor for Youth Specialization.
