Instructors and Bios
Larry Judge, Ph.D., C.S.C.S. is an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and coordinator of the graduate coaching program at Ball State University. He has 18 years of Division I coaching experience with Indiana State University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Wyoming and the University of Florida. He is currently the USA Track & Field National Chairman for Coaching Education in the throwing events. He is also a Level III instructor for the International Association of Athletics Federation’s (IAAF) Coaching Education Program and has coached more than 100 NCAA Division I All-Americans, including eight Olympians.

David Pavlansky was head boys’ track and cross-country coach at Boardman High School from 1999 –2010. Twice named OAT&CCC District 1 Boys’ Track Coach of the Year, Dave received the 2007 Fred Daffler State Coach of the Year Award for Boys’ Cross Country. In 2007 he was among 10 sprint coaches selected nationwide by the USATF to attend the Emerging Elite Coaches’ School in Orlando, Florida. During Dave’s tenure Boardman teams produced both Indoor and Outdoor state champions as well as two Nike All-Americans. Dave has USATF Level 2 certifications in Jumps, Endurance, and Sprints / Hurdles / Relays and he currently serves as USATF Regional Coordinator of Coaching Education for the Midwest and East.

Marissa Chew is the Sprints, Hurdles, Jumps and Combined Events coach at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). She has been at IUPUI since January 2018 and is the program’s first and only non-distance coach. Prior to IUPUI, Marissa served as an assistant coach at Wabash College (DIII), San Francisco State University (DII) and for several years at the high school level. Marissa is a certified USATF Level 1, Level 2 (Sprints/Hurdles/Relays, Jumps, Youth and Combined Events) and USATF Level 3/World Athletics Level V in the Jumps.

Shawn Venable is the jumps & hurdles coach at Liberty University. Venable also serves USATF as the Coaching Education Southeast Regional Coordinator and is a Level 1 & 2 Instructor. He has earned the IAAF Level 5/ USATF Level 3 certifications in the Jumps, Sprints & Hurdles and Combined Events.
