Instructors and Bios

Larry Judge, Ph.D., CSCS is a Professor of Kinesiology and coordinator of the graduate coaching program at Ball State University. He has 18 years of Division I coaching experience with Indiana State University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Wyoming and the University of Florida. He is also a Level III instructor for the World Athletics Coaching Education Program and has coached more than 100 NCAA Division I All-Americans, including nine Olympians. Coach Judge was named the 2003 NCAA assistant coach of the year in the throwing events. Judge served as the throws coach for the 2012 London, and 2016 Rio Paralympic team for the United States.

David Pavlansky was head boys’ track and cross-country coach at Boardman High School from 1999 –2011. Twice named OAT&CCC District 1 Boys’ Track Coach of the Year, Dave’s teams won 6 conference and 7 district championships. He received the 2007 Fred Daffler State Coach of the Year Award for Boys’ Cross Country and also in 2007 he was among 10 sprint coaches selected nationwide by the USATF to attend the Emerging Elite Coaches’ School in Orlando, Florida. During Dave’s tenure Boardman teams produced both Indoor and Outdoor state champions as well as two Nike All-Americans. Dave has USATF Level 2 certifications in Jumps, Endurance, and Sprints / Hurdles / Relays and he currently serves as USATF Regional Coordinator of Coaching Education for the Midwest.

Rick Rothman is an assistant coach at Florida Atlantic University. Rick has coached for a total of 39 years with his teams winning 151 major championships, including Seven State Championships, and finishing runner-up in 45 other major championships. His record includes seven state titles in girls cross-country; two runner-ups in girls and boys cross country; 12 regional titles, and 25 district titles. Rothman has been selected Coach of the Year 117 times, including State Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1999, 2002, and 2003 along with the Florida Track and Field Hall of Fame State Girls Cross Country Coach of the year in 2009.

Shawn Venable is the jumps & hurdles coach at Liberty University. Venable also serves USATF as the Coaching Education Southeast Regional Coordinator and is a Level 1 & 2 Instructor. He has earned the IAAF Level 5/ USATF Level 3 certifications in the Jumps, Sprints & Hurdles and Combined Events.
