Instructors
Dr. Matt Lydum is the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Pacific University. Previously he has held head coaching positions at Pendleton High School in Eastern Oregon, San Francisco State University, and Defiance College in Ohio. He has served as USOC delegate to the International Olympic Academy and was project writer for the Human Kinetics text, Coaching Youth Track & Field

David Pavlansky was head boys’ track and cross-country coach at Boardman High School from 1999 –2011. Twice named OAT&CCC District 1 Boys’ Track Coach of the Year, Dave’s teams won 6 conference and 7 district championships. He received the 2007 Fred Daffler State Coach of the Year Award for Boys’ Cross Country and also in 2007 he was among 10 sprint coaches selected nationwide by the USATF to attend the Emerging Elite Coaches’ School in Orlando, Florida. During Dave’s tenure Boardman teams produced both Indoor and Outdoor state champions as well as two Nike All-Americans. Dave has USATF Level 2 certifications in Jumps, Endurance, and Sprints / Hurdles / Relays and he currently serves as USATF Regional Coordinator of Coaching Education for the Midwest.

Joel Pearson is the Head Cross Country Coach at Pratt Community College. Previously, Joel was the Director at Cardinal Stritch University. During his time, the Wolves captured six national champions, 34 all-Americans, 42 National Qualifiers, and set an NAIA National DMR record. A USATF Level 3 / IAAF Level V Academy Coach – Endurance, Joel holds USATF Level 2 certifications in Endurance, Combined Events, Sprint/Hurdles, Jumps, and Youth. He holds a Masters in Sport Management.

Scott Cappos is in his sixth year at the University of Nebraska, serving as the throws coach. Cappos has had more than 100 athletes qualify for the NCAA Championships (preliminary round and finals), including 2016 NCAA Discus National Champion, Nick Percy. Before Nebraska, Cappos spent 18 seasons at the University of Iowa as an assistant coach and director of field events. While at Iowa, his athletes tied or broke Big Ten records in the hammer throw, javelin and long jump. The 2011 Iowa men’s team won the Big Ten Championship with heavy contributions from athletes Cappos recruited and coached.
