Instructors and Bios

David Pavlansky was head boys’ track and cross-country coach at Boardman High School from 1999 –2011. Twice named OAT&CCC District 1 Boys’ Track Coach of the Year, Dave’s teams won 6 conference and 7 district championships. He received the 2007 Fred Daffler State Coach of the Year Award for Boys’ Cross Country and also in 2007 he was among 10 sprint coaches selected nationwide by the USATF to attend the Emerging Elite Coaches’ School in Orlando, Florida. During Dave’s tenure Boardman teams produced both Indoor and Outdoor state champions as well as two Nike All-Americans. Dave has USATF Level 2 certifications in Jumps, Endurance, and Sprints / Hurdles / Relays and he currently serves as USATF Regional Coordinator of Coaching Education for the Midwest.

Larry Judge, Ph.D., C.S.C.S. is an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and coordinator of the graduate coaching program at Ball State University. He has 18 years of Division I coaching experience with Indiana State University, the University of South Carolina, the University of Wyoming and the University of Florida. He is currently the USA Track & Field National Chairman for Coaching Education in the throwing events. He is also a Level III instructor for the International Association of Athletics Federation’s (IAAF) Coaching Education Program and has coached more than 100 NCAA Division I All-Americans, including eight Olympians.

Shawn Venable is assistant coach for jumps and hurdles and recruiting coordinator at Liberty University. He has coached several All-Americans, conference champions and school record holders in the sprints and jumps events. Venable holds multiple coaching education certifications, including the highest attainable certification with USATF Level 3 and IAAF Level V certification in Jumps, Sprints/Hurdles, and Combined Events. In addition to coaching, he also serves as the USATF Level 1 Regional Coordinator for the Southeast region.

Andrew Allden is currently coach of the women’s cross country team at the University of South Carolina. He is a Level 1 and Level 2 instructor, with 23 years of experience as a Division I collegiate coach. He coached a Division I Men’s National Champion in the 800m and in 2003 was named Southeast Men’s Coach of the Year. Andrew has been involved with Coaching Education since 1993 and is co-author of the Endurance section of the USATF Level 1 textbook.
